Chapter 28: What was selected? and why.

17 days till CAIEs and I must admit, I’ve never been this scared. Apologies for keeping everyone waiting. For the past few days, I’ve been avoiding getting done with the production posts but now that I have delayed it enough, I’ll try putting my heart out in these few days.

The selected footage did take me sometime to sit and shortlist. Our very first draft was a more raw version of what we have created. It involved a lot of close ups and the cuts were more abrupt so to fix that, we had to re edit the entire video. Good thing about starting again was, we got a more clear idea on how to improve the edit after a lot of constructive criticism.

We kept more wide shots and included more videos of the location to acknowledge the surrounding and make the audience feel the ambiance.

here’s the shots mentioned for the location:

The thought behind this shot being used for credits was to symbolize freedom and chaos. The birds represented the characters and the blue represented  melancholy. The emotions of the entire film opening can easily be conveyed using this specific scene. The handheld movement and focusing out and in of the camera makes it seem more flawed which we wanted to keep the scene more genuine.

This specific scene is one of my favorites, The greens and colors does say a lot about the theme of the film; Growth and tranquility. This was the perfect shot to highlight the location and nature shown.

Definitely a compulsory scene to show the location of where the character was living and what their lifestyle was. also, great for showing the culture and heritage.

The scenes which were shot with the characters were mostly handheld, we tried getting as much perspectives of both the characters hence, we tested different shots which highlighted body movement and put more attention towards the two including the mid shots and wide ones.

Close ups of eyes and hands portrayed the emotions and a bit of change. The ground level shot was planned wayyy before we wrote the story down and using that specific shot to show passage of time had to be one of my favorite techniques.

The diegetic sound here was of the birds chirping and dialogues, of course. The non diegetic included background music and other ambient music.

Lots of natural lighting and colors were used. I made sure to add saturation to the frames. you see colors like blue, green, yellow, purple all symbolizing some distinct emotions. The colors do fade out gradually till getting to the climax which did add a great impact in the film.

There was also a pan shot in the climax scene which highlighted to build suspense and draw attention towards the character.

Am i missing something? Hmm I guess not.

That’s all folks!
