The past few months have been…. to say the least, challenging. A few months ago, we had it all sorted and set to go. I came upon the greatest idea to execute in shape of a film opening and a preliminary task to go with it.

Here’s where everything went south… me, Mirab and Hadeed decided to do the project together since we were all doing theatre together and had an idea on how we wanted things to be. The script was planned out and now, we needed a location. so, we left for a recce and what place greater than the walled city of Lahore, right?

As theatre kids, we already had actors and actresses in mind that suited the character and even found costumes for all of them. We got all our actors and took them along to Androon to get an idea of the location, feel of the film and the lighting.

Another issue we faced was regarding the location, the security and staff at walled city weren’t allowing cameras and equipment inside and for permission, we needed contacts with civil officers or had to spend most of our days going around, filling forms and wasting our time. After discussing this with our college heads, we were sure getting the location amidst the overpopulation and noise in those areas will be the greatest headache.

After getting our idea approved by Sir Zia and getting scolded for writing on the college board. This is where our editor decided to leave the subject…. a moment of silence for all our hard work. In his defense, having 4 subjects including computer science in A levels really caught up to him.

So, here’s the plan:

We change the script, get our actors on board, do more research, find a location whilst covering our preliminary task. Let’s think of this as fate, we got more practice, more ideas and there’s no going back.

"Manzil milegi,
bhatak kar sahi.
gumrah tou woh hain jou ghar se nikla hi nahi."

(even if the path is lost along the way,
the destination is still reached;
truly lost are those
who never stepped beyond their door.)
