Cinema is a mirror by which we often see ourselves. Therefore, we understand the art of the film opening. In easier words, you either connect to the beginning of the film or you go back to the circus your life has become … that is what we call a hook or setting the tone and mood. You find YOUR people through film. You’ve got to carpe diem the audience. Frankly, no one cares how much you’re struggling to earn for a living…. They need entertainment. So, you now have two options. Either grab their attention in the start or hold a gun to their head and force them to watch the film. Unfortunately, the second option can only be conducted in cinemas (do not try this in your local cinema)
. Introduce your world:
Your story will now become your world, as long as the film lives, that world you’ve made up remains.. So you introduce your character, their background and give them a little hint to how the story will progress. ‘The dark knight’ hooks the audience by the entrance of the villian in the opening scene (joker robs the bank) this scene gives the audience an idea of the setting (Gotham city), the characters (The Joker) and of course has you questioning, what’s going to happen next? Now, you’re willing to procrastinate and instead of studying you spend the next 2 hours finding an answer to that question. Maybe, that’s what got you to the end of this post 😉
Oh, and in case I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
